Musicman Stingray Bass 1996 Upgraded

What we have here is a wonderful 1996 Stingray 4 in black with a rosewood board and birdseye maple neck.

The bass is in great condition for its age and plays like a dream as you would expect from  an instrument of this quality. Now for the exciting stuff. This bass has been heavily upgraded ( all reversible ) to enable the player to access a huge range of tones. The standard pickup has been swapped out for a Nordstrand that is vastly superior to the original. The really exciting part of this bass is the electronics. The previous owner has exchanged the preamp for a Lusithand Double NPF system, based on the WAL bass preamps that are so iconic and desired for their tone.

Pot 1.  Which is the volume Pot 2.  This is a blend between the two coils of the humbucking pickup. Pots 3 + 4 Are the EQ’s for each coil.

You can think of this as a two pickup bass. The pots sweep through the filter frequency range rather like an analog synth does. The pots are push pull and in the up position they add resonance to the eq at the cutoff frequency set by the pot. So the tonal possibilities are huge. But when you have two EQ’s ( one for each coil ) that can be blended together the range becomes endless. This bass really is a WAL in Stingrays clothing.
